Many apps are purely fun and there are many downloadable games that allow users to turn something mundane, like waiting at the doctor's office or in a long line fun by playing games - phones are truly informational and entertainment portals.
So what if you want to get involved in this business? Indeed there are perks to developing iphone apps as there is no overhead and fairly simple transaction. Not every idea makes a good application, however, so here are some things to consider if you want to get into this business.
The simple question is what is your idea? Is it truly unique? Does it offer a service that presently isn't being offered, or you offer it better? Now that you're ready to take it to the next step, put your team together. Now you may be one of the rare people that can have an idea and take it all the way through coding, but these individuals are few and far between.
