Since humankind has existed, we have looked upon the star-lit night's sky above and speculated over its many mysteries. Astrologers date back to before time was even recorded. The earliest recorded birth chart was discovered in Iraq and is dated 410 BC. A birth chart presents to us an individual map which allows for us to track the planetary influences that affect our exact place of origin and time of birth. The birth chart is as unique as your fingerprints.
Astrology is about analyzing the patterns, relationships and - perhaps most importantly - the movements of the planets. We link these into our birth. Since we consider ourselves a part of the universe, our moments of birth are said to be recorded on the celestial clock - giving us meaning. The first fact that most people know about astrology is their zodiac/star sign. This is the simplest form of astrology, also called the sun sign, and it only requires a person's date of birth. Astrologers will say that using the sun sign, though, will only produce really limited results. Hence different techniques such as birth charts and analyzing the continuous movement of the planets are used for greater accuracy.
We use astrology to learn more about ourselves. The cosmic chart uses symbols which carry a large power, thus they can be used to learn anything from a person's personality to their relationship with others (and of course much more). It may seem incomprehensible initially however as you delve further, certain things begin to snap into place and make good sense. An astrologist will understand that whatever happens will happen for a reason - whereas some people merely think that life is a random and pointless road. As the planets follow a cycle, so do our lives. It is easy to analyze the flow of planets, but when we look at a human being it is much more complicated. Assessing ourselves or anyone else by tracking the planets allows us to get a better understanding of our nature. Doing this will allow us to be as prosperous as possible via the predictions that we make.
Astrology can give us meaning when we clash with certain people we come across. Through comparing the birth charts with other people's charts, astrology teaches that you can then understand why a personality clash (hence argument) may have arisen.
Astrology will not determine the future, but it can advise us and help us understand our past, present and future. A common metaphor is to imagine being given a certain hand of cards. Via astrology you can then use your cards in the most beneficial way possible. If you are dealt a very brilliant set of cards but through ignorance play them wrongly, things may not turn out so well in life. Just as if you are given a bad hand but know how to play your cards you could win big!
