Beware Of Used Car Dealers And Their Tricks

Although a lot of people can afford to buy a brand new car, some people choose to purchase used cars for various reasons. For example, several people buy used cars that are one or two years old because they look new but have already gone through most of their depreciation. Whenever people want to buy such cars, they end up going to used car dealers.

This kind of dealership truly has garnered itself a tough reputation through the years. In fact, even television shows and movies make fun of salesmen of used cars, where they are usually given a stupid and lazy demeanor. Their reputation also usually has a lot to do with selling cars that should have been sent to the dumps ages ago. Consumers also constantly file complaints on how they were wronged by a local dealer in the past.

So, is there any truth to any of this? Well, there may be some. Regardless of how shady several of these individuals may be though, most of the blame can be given to the customer who fails to understand what he is paying for and what he is getting charged. So, unless your dealer is committing fraud on purpose, you need to properly outline your whole deal in the paperwork that you sign. If you were given several promises, make sure all of them are written down as well. Basically, never sign things unless you see everything you agreed to, written down.

Another problem that constantly comes up as well would be consumer complaints in the form of available financing for these used cars. Now, you can't just keep blaming this on used car dealers, either. See, used cars always have higher rates of interest associated with their loans, regardless of how great your credit might be. This is so because cars are defaulted on much more frequently. In fact, this dates all the way back to when used cars only existed as old clunkers, so if people ended up financing them, they would just die out and people would quit shelling money out for them. Although things have definitely changed in the car industry, the industry of finance has not been able to keep up with everything.

One other problem would involve consumers having a hard time getting specific car information on a ton of lots. Keep in mind that several dealerships just sell as many cars as possible, so they cannot really be expected to actually know everything about every single car in their lot. Plus, such cars usually do not come with the manual of the original owners, so if you see a car you like, you may have to learn everything about it on your own.

Lastly, take the car for a long and proper test drive. If you can, go to a car mechanic so he can check out the odometer to rule out any tampering. Remember that this isn't restricted to old cars, either; a lot of new cars are prime candidates for this as well, while several cars get turned in for high mileage. Make sure you don't buy one of these at used car dealers. Good luck!
