What amazing elements nuts and bolts are Why? Because they tell tales - wonderful stories of where they go, where they hide and how they hold things together My affinity for nuts and bolts started out as a youngster building metal models. I didn't like the "unfinished" look of the provided little nuts and bolts as I believed they spoilt my models. To put the problem right I caught public transit into town and set off by foot to a down-town shop - Sam's Nuts and Bolts.

Here I met Uncle Sam, the owner of the store. He was a small skinny aged Jewish Uncle with thin whitened hair and a great big hooked nose area on which rested a pair of wire rimmed eyeglasses, behind which shone twinkling glowing blue eyes. I described my problem to Uncle Sam and he quickly grasped because he was a nuts and bolt person, through and through. I was in heaven as he took me behind the counter and showed me rack after rack filled up with shiny mounting bolts, black bolts, steel bolts, long bolts, small bolts, and tiny bolts -all with matching nuts. Yes, we found small bolts - glistening ones with very little rounded bolts. My models stood proud with those lovely nuts and bolts.

One of the most fascinating nuts and bolts assemblies in Uncle Sam's shop was an old wood nut and bolt, which held an old wooden hand plough together. I was addicted for the rest of my life on nuts and bolts, once I understood their significance and how they each had a specific purpose and a special way of keeping an assemblage together.

Nuts and bolts can be found in all sorts of lengths, thicknesses; designs also purpose designs and are made of a great number of alloys, including steel, stainless-steel, brass and even titanium for specialised applications. Nuts and bolt can be purchased in even supermarkets apart from hardware shops and tool dealers, but the real gems are to be located in those downtown stores like Sam's Nut and Bolt Store.

Like cable and a couple of pliers, nuts and bolts and a screwdriver or a spanner or in a crisis even a pair of pliers can do wonders for a fast solution in common situations. A lot of people gather nuts and bolts in large quantities through the years as things are stripped and the nuts and bolts are stored "for one day". The commercial use of nuts and bolts remains crucial despite superior welding applications. So, one will find nuts and bolts in just about any product that requires bonding in one form or another. Vehicles carry them, bikes carry them, so do train locomotives, airplanes and ships - you mention it.

Nuts and bolts may well seem rather ordinary to the inexperienced until you have the need for it. Aircraft have been grounded on account of the need for a specialised nut and bolt, so have vehicles come to a temporary standstill waiting for nuts and bolts to be changed. We so often take things as a given that seem to be rather normal to us - even nuts and bolts without stopping and thinking why the Uncle Sam's of this world can be so enthusiastic about these seemingly boring objects.
