Due to tree felling, we lose up to six billion trees yearly. This has to do with the demand for goods that are created from trees. Writing paper and household tissues are an illustration of this, as well as the lumber used to construct homes. Alas, we need the things that the trees produce but we can do something about the depletion of our timberlands.

Trees are celebrated on Arbor Day and the aim of the celebration is that we should plant trees at that time but this is not really dealing with the issue. The reality is, trees are not being planted by most people. If they did their share and planted trees, we would be all ready to go.

The global population is likely around the 7 billion mark. The actual figures obviously fluctuate and so this is a calculated estimate. However, if every of those 7 billion individuals went out and planted a tree every Arbor Day, we would be replacing all the trees that were cut down that year. We know in reality that this is not likely to happen.

Therefore, planting trees is something you need to consider if you are concerned about the air we breathe and the environment. When it comes to planting a tree, I would not suggest you only do this on a particular day each year. I am talking more or less once a month or even once per week. We have to try to make up for those individuals who never plant trees even though they go on using the earth's valuable resources.

Did you know that on Arbor Day, only between 8 and 15 million trees are planted? So annually, we have a shortage of more or less 5 billion trees. This situation continues to deteriorate.

A complete answer is called for that still encourages people to plant trees but I would also suggest the following. If a law could be enacted that whenever a tree is chopped down by lumber companies, they then had to plant two new ones, this could genuinely make a huge difference.

We are going to have to continue to deal with this problem ourselves until there is the political willpower to make these changes. And it won't take that much for us to increase the tree population yearly. The number of trees cut down every year could be replaced if ten percent of the world's population planted one tree each month. On average, that would be around 7 billion trees being planted every year. And that 1 billion extra trees are exactly what we need in order to get our tree population back to where it must be.

Each person worried about the health of our ecosystems can assist by planting trees. Once more, it only takes 10% of our population to begin making a difference. It's your decision if you want to get involved.
