Females know less than nothing regarding plumbing, let's be honest. But that doesn't mean that we don't have to know what it is and how it works. Sometime somewhere down the line something is going to break or burst that will require immediate attention to avoid more damage, and you'll have to attend to it. This is usually the case in many plumbing problems: something breaks or bursts and no one is able to quickly repair it, which causes a bigger problem and unnecessary expenses need to be paid. I know plumbing may be boring and you think that you should not be working with it at all, but it really can save you a lot of money ultimately. So finding out what pipes, plumber fittings, valves and vents are might not be such a bad idea after all.

Repairing a tiny leak is probably the most useful plumbing technique or tip you will ever have to master or use, because this is where most plumbing problems start. Should you ever locate a small leak on a pipe or drain, this is what you should do:

1. Immediately shut down the water supply to the problem area by modifying the valves located underneath or near the plumbing fixtures. This may prevent the loss of more water and will clear the area that requires attention.
2. Right after shutting the water down, prepare the area around the leak by wiping it until it is neat and dry.
3. Now you have to seal the leak. Bear in mind, this is only an emergency fix. You will either have to buy new plumber fittings or components, or call in a plumbing technician to have a look at the problem. Now you can take a roll of standard electrical tape and firmly wrap several layers around and beyond the leak on both sides of the pipe. Make sure the tape is put on properly and that it covers the whole leak.
4. If the leak is originating from a fitting rather than a cracked pipe, use simple glue, found in any home improvement store.

This is just a basic leak fix; don't think that you will only ever deal with plumber fittings and electrical tape, it becomes a lot more challenging. It is a start, however!
