Talk to me of metal anchors and I picture securing a yacht. Well, I am a sailor in fact, so when my adult son called me on my mobile the other day and wanted me to get him 50 metal anchors the very next time I was at the shops, I was flabbergasted. My initial thought was, did this guy have any idea what he was asking of me? Get real, how on earth might I be able to carry the darn things to his house without having to hire a pantechnicon? That's, if I could even find fifty ship anchors for sale in any one place, let alone on the shelf at the general store! Furthermore, what could he be considering doing with fifty ship anchors in the first place? Then I realised that he had been talking about the small devices you use to anchor heavy objects to wall surfaces. The last piece of the puzzle fell into place when I recalled him saying that his spouse would like a wall-mounted TV in the kitchen and that he would grant her wish the next time he happened to be in the frame of mind to do some D-I-Y.
The metal anchors my son was referring to are, not surprisingly, those neat little screw-like devices used to attach weighty items like tv sets to wall surfaces where regular screws wouldn't be satisfactory. They may also be used as hooks to hang stuff from, but I digress; evidently the guy was now in the mental state to proceed to hang a TV set in the kitchen! Alright, I'll be the first to confess that I was feeling like a dunce for having thought that my son wanted ship anchors but there is an explanation for it. My thoughts were somewhere else when my son called because I was preoccupied with planning the next ocean trip on my lovely vessel, the Bella Casa. Organising a sea voyage is no minor task because there are many factors involved which I won't go into at this point, the reality is, I hope you will forgive me for jumping to such a peculiar conclusion when my son requested fifty metal anchors. Thankfully, I did not allow it to slip back then that I had imagined he needed ship anchors or he'd certainly have begun to be concerned about his old dad's sanity.
However, to make a long tale short, I bought the metal anchors and delivered them to the young man in person because I had a question to inquire of him. Precisely what, I wanted to know, was he going to do with so many of these tiny things when he'd most likely only require about 5 of them to attach the TV to the kitchen wall. He said that when he was done hanging a Telly in the cooking area, he would do the same in the master suite and the family room. He even offered to install a TV set on board my boat! I believed he was being somewhat overzealous but thought it best not to mention that he had by no means been this passionate about work when he was a youngster, so I politely declined and said goodbye before I said something I regretted.
