A ceramic umbrella stand makes a magnificent focal point in any foyer or drawing room. In fact you can put one of these in any room in your home. Some people use them as vases to display nice fresh flowers. That is something about fresh flowers which makes every home so attractive. Others will put those attractive storage jars in their bathrooms or bedrooms.

Regardless of where you use your ceramic umbrella stand you will need to clean it at some point. It can make lots of people worried particularly if it is an antique. If it has made in China printed on the bottom you know that you could be able to change it quite easily if the worst occurs and it breaks. But when it's a family heirloom or a costly investment it is a different matter.

The ceramic may be glassy which is an excellent thing as dust finds it hard to settle on. Use a wet cloth and give it a rub regularly. If you have been using the stand for flowers you might have some dirt at the bottom. Try rinsing it in warm water to clean any free debris. Take a soft brush such as an old toothbrush and try to clean any lasting dirt. Be careful not to rub. This might remove the dirt but is likely to take the ceramic cover with it.

Make a mixture of baking soda, household ammonia or vinegar and water. Fill the stand with this solution and permit to stand for a while. After 15 minutes check to see has the dirt been removed, if it has only rinse out. If not, let it stand for some time more but limit the time to 45 minutes. After this time, your ceramic umbrella stand must be as good as new.
