Telepathy can have many meanings to many people, the simply put definition is that it is being able to feel what another feels without being around them. This must be done without being able to see them, hear them, or touch them physically.
Because of the nature of telepathy, it is viewed as communication that is not on our plane.
Indeed, many animal trainers and scientists researching the ways animal communicate have become convinced beyond the shadow of a doubt that animals are using telepathic communications in addition to other means of reaching each other, and sometimes their telepathic communications extend over vast distances.
There are also those in the scientific community that believe primitive tribes used powers of telepathy and still have the ability to communicate in this fashion today.
Even though telepathy is not a widely spoken about, it is not as uncommon as you might think. This used to be a regular occurrence in human behavior. Just as much as what your native tongue or what you look like depends on where and who you are born to, telepathy used to be the same. It is thought that those who do not naturally feel the telepathy, can be trained to remember it again. That most just have a learning problem as someone with dyslexia has a problem with letters and numbers.
While humans have kept their other senses; sight, smell, touch, hearing and taste, the sense of telepathy is no longer evident in modern humanity.
Most are familiar with the concept of our sixth sense, this is assumed to be the telepathic ability of human kind. While this is no longer second nature in people, some animals still have this ability and people can re learn to use this sense.
Intuition is a form of telepathy. You know that feeling that someone is watching your or the hair on your arms starts to tingle? That is telepathy in its purest form. Most of the time when you have these feelings, you are correct in your assessment. How many times have your children woken you up by just looking at you while you sleep, intuitively, even in your sleeping state you sense that someone is there and wake up.
As we have grown in our cultures, we have lost touch with our telepathic ancestors. Most of do not even recognize our own telepathy.
How this began will probably never be answered, but it's believed that it was constantly down played by religions all over the world. Most predominantly were Christianity and Islam. They believe that this is the power of Satan and not a tool the human mind already has inside.
Religion today has gripped society like never before. They have gained powers over the years and have swayed opinions and though processes so that telepathy does not exist in many people eyes any longer. They no longer believe in their own abilities but think there is some higher power that controls everything.
Religion first brought about the change in thoughts of telepaths as it was fearful for the early organized religious leaders.
There are a few religions that do follow the ancient paths and within these religions, telepathy is not feared. In fact in some of the older religions, it is embraced and has become a tool for those religions. There are no set leaders to tell the congregation that telepathy is a tool of the devil, instead they congregation themselves choose what they will practice.
Scientists have a basic need to be able to explain any event. Because of the elusive nature of telepathy, they do not believe it exists even though many people have had these experiences in their lives.
They believe that telepathy cannot be numerically measured to get enough serious consideration. They also exclaim that it can't be tasted, or even touched. Keep in mind there are several scientists who believe in the telepathy powers, but they are few and far between.
Instead you will find that we classify telepathic experiences as connections and instincts. We believe this is true only because those scientists, who try to bring the negative side to it, can't experience it themselves. However, they're always quick to acknowledge a strange or gut feeling as an instinct. While this wouldn't normally be a big deal, it's hard to understand considering these traits are just as elusive as telepathy.
Are they jealous? Do they envy those individuals with these abilities and then use their position in society to try and make a mockery of something that they cannot do? Many believe that this is exactly what is going on in regards to telepathy as they simply write it off as a "happening" or nothing more than a good instinct.
Maybe we can date back this loss as far as the Tower of Babylon story and the confusion that surrounded languages. Maybe it wasn't just language that was a setback; maybe people who used telepathy had this problem as well.
