A doctor was asked by an international record club about a particular matter. According to the club, a number of the disc jockeys that they employed worried about their sense of hearing. They work long hours in the disco booth and are afraid they may be suffering from some kind of a hearing loss.
As mentioned by the lady Director of Audiology at the New York League for the Hard of Hearing, they should not dwell as much on this particular issue for there is always a way to take care of a hearing loss problem. The lady offered them evaluations to see if they have this condition or not and according to her, they have a van that comes with a full range of diagnostic equipment.
It was an audiometer that was used to see how well the disc jockeys could hear and considering the ages of these people, none of them were over 35 years of age. Having high frequency hearing loss were one third of the disc jockeys.
Here, a high percentage existed according to the doctor. Considering the ages of the participants, they should only have garnered a two percent affliction.
Aside from soundproofing their booths and turning down the volume inside these booths, the affected jockeys were also instructed by the doctor to wear earplugs as much as possible and reduce their exposure to loud disco music. When it comes to this, the widespread disco fad throughout the United States is partly to blame but other sources of loud noises are also responsible for the decline in the hearing abilities of young people all over the world. The kind of noise volume that is bad for your hearing is the kind of noise that requires you to raise your voice to speak to someone three feet away.
When it comes to a decibel, this is the measure of the loudness of sound. Sounds measuring about 140 decibels will destroy your eardrums and this is the maximum measurement when it comes to the decibel scale. It is the decibel scale which measures the intensity of sounds with those at 20 decibels being faint, 40 being moderate, 60 to 80 being loud, 100 decibels being deafening, and a measurement of 120 decibels pertaining to the sounds that can be painful to the ears.
When it comes to loud music, the normal measurement is around 60 to 100 decibels. In order to get people to notice you at 80 decibels, you need to shout, literally, and do not expect to have a decent phone conversation with someone at this level of noise.
Earplugs are now more affordable thanks to the efforts of the New York League for the Hard of Hearing. What they did is team up with various ear mold laboratories all over the country.
The greatest problem is the subtlety of the injury. In the case of hearing loss, no matter how severe it is, it will be painless and it can eventually lead to a permanent problem. In this case, you can prevent hearing loss from happening.
