Comedienne Chelsea Handler has found enough celebrity fodder to handcraft a long-lasting late-night television career. The "Chelsea Lately" TV host and E! Network's resident funny lady reached all new heights on Oct. 19, when "Chelsea Lately" broadcast its 600th episode.
In honor of the career milestone, Handler tweeted: "Tonight is our 600th episode of chelsea lately. Tune in to see chuy lose his job." The tweet was followed with another post concerning her assistant, Chuy: "Like I said, tonight is our 600th episode, and chuy just asked me if we've done 600 episodes, how many shows that equals...dear."
Handler and her big-personality panel of comedians did nothing particularly out of the ordinary during the broadcast of the 600th episode of "Chelsea Lately," but the celebrity skewer did invite a memorable guest onto the show for the event: country music artist Blake Shelton (who Handler affectionately refers to as the "hot mess of the country music world.")
Shelton, known for his stinging Twitter quips and rebel-rousing redneck behavior, also addressed the 600 mile-marker in style, gifting Handler with a tank top that reads: "Hot Mess Blake Shelton was my 600th." Chuy ended the show wearing the shirt, further revealing the antics that have helped to make "Chelsea Lately" one of the most popular late-night TV shows of all.
When Handler first began her career as a comedian, it was hard to imagine the Garden State native as anything but a glorified hot mess. The vodka swiller got her start in the industry doing stand-up comedy in Los Angeles, and she scored her first big gig in the mid-2000s on the Oxygen Network series aptly titled "Girls Behaving Badly." Soon thereafter, Handler scored her own semi-scripted late-night comedy show called "Chelsea Lately," and after three years of deprecating celebrity bashings and say-anything humor, the E! goldmine is still running strong.
When she's not busy at work targeting the faux paus of celebrities like Lindsay Lohan, Angelina Jolie, Paris Hilton and Nick Cannon, Handler can be found making fun of herself on her own stand-up tours. The saucy comedienne is currently making the rounds on her Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang Tour in promotion of her new book of the same name, and her live act is selling out Chelsea Handler tickets just as soon as they're available at venues around the country.
Chelsea Handler has quickly grown into a household name after snatching her spot in the limelight in the mid-2000s, and she's easily become one of the leading figures in the late-night TV realm - a huge accomplishment for a female comedian. With panel crack-ups like Heather McDonald, Brad Wollack, Sarah Colonna, Whitney Cummings, Josh Wolf and John Caparulo backing her up, it's clear that Handler has formed the perfect 30-minute program with "Chelsea Lately," and No. 600 looks like it's just the beginning for the hilarious superstar.
How long will "Chelsea Lately" survive in the dog-eat-dog late-night TV realm and will Handler ever slow down? For now, the comedienne is absolutely unstoppable, and she continues to be a prominent fixture atop E! ratings. As Handler left it on her 600th episode of "Chelsea Lately," "Happy 600th. You're welcome, E!."
