Aziz Ansari may currently be starring on NBC's Parks and Recreation and in the midst of a fall tour, but the comedian also has a few film projects currently in production. MTV.com reports that Ansari is currently shooting the comedy 30 Minutes or Less with Danny McBride in Michigan, and already has another project with McBride lined up.
Ansari and McBride will co-star in a flick called Olympic-Size A-Hole, which McBride explains is "about this Olympic athlete who comes back to his hometown and bangs mine and Aziz's girlfriends. So we go on this mission to destroy his Olympic life." 30 Minutes or Less sees Ansari playing a history teacher who is forced to rob a bank with a pizza delivery guy played by Jesse Eisenberg (you know him from Zombieland and The Social Network).
Ansari is coming off of a busy summer, as the 27-year-old comedian hosted the MTV Movie Awards in June and also performed at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn. in between tour dates and taping his NBC sitcom. Back in April, Ansari joked to MTV.com that he was doing a lot of preparation for show saying, "I've watched Twilight a bunch. I've watched Avatar 400 times. I've been stalking Daniel Radcliffe." Ansari offered some too-risque-to-print words of wisdom to fellow comedian Chelsea Handler, who hosted the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 12!
Although he left the hosting up to Chelsea Handler, Aziz Ansari was on hand to introduce rapper Kanye West at the MTV VMAs. Kanye's return to the VMAs was controversial to say the least, after he interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech last year, but Ansari lightened things up, calling 2009's infamous incident "hilarious" during a phone call from Jersey Shore cast member Ronnie. Ansari and West, who performed his latest single "Runaway" at the VMAs, are friends and their hang our sessions have wound up in Ansari's standup routines. Ansari also started the Twitter hashtag #PredictingKanyeTweets.
Ansari, who was handpicked for Parks and Recreation by the show's creator, Saturday Night Live alum Amy Poehler, has dates lined up in San Diego, Calif.; Houston, Texas; Austin, Texas; San Francisco, Calif.; Atlantic City, N.J.; Los Angeles, Calif. and more through Nov. 20. Fans can also get Aziz Ansari tickets to see him perform at the New York Comedy Festival this fall. The 2010 edition of the annual festival will take place Nov. 3 through 7 and will feature another NBC star, Community's Joel McHale, headlining alongside Ansari. In association with Comedy Central, the annual NYCF will feature performance by more than 150 comedians such as Margaret Cho, Gabriel Iglesias, Brian Regan, and Nick Swardson, to name a few.
A native of Columbia, S.C., Aziz Ansari enjoyed making his friends and family laugh but only considered making stand-up a career while attending New York University. Flash forward to 2005, when Rolling Stone hailed him one of the top standup acts of the year. Ansari made his big-screen debut in School for Scoundrels and the rest is, as they say, history.
