Automatic Litter Box - More Trouble Than They're Worth?

Automatic cat litter boxes fascinate lots of cat owners because they are sick and tired of cleaning traditional kitty litter boxes manually. However, lots of people don't know that certain automatic litter boxes may be a good deal more trouble to handle than they may be worth. For the reason that automatic litterboxes are a more or less new product, a lot of brands might not be adequately designed. While in the self-cleaning process, the rake and/or the gears can get caught on the feces and hold up. The motor could cause enough noise to wake you from slumber in the middle of the night after your cat takes a dump. Some litterboxes even throw feces across the room during self-cleaning. Based on feedback from some annoyed owners of automatic kitty litter boxes, it is apparent that they are sorry for ever having invested in one.

On the other hand, there are litterboxes that are well-designed, that many of the consumers are satisfied with. Although nearly every product has the possibilities of dysfunctioning, some are less certain to cause trouble for their owners than others. Based on my first-hand exposure to several brands of this type of gadget, together with plenty of the client feedback I have read online, I found the following automatic kitty litter boxes to be the better selection to choose between.

1) Litter Robot

Minutes after a cat goes to the bathroom and leaves, the Litter Robot automatically deposits clumps into a bag below. It is quiet when it operates, and controls odor comparatively well. Another plus is that it has low upkeep cost, as the only things that need to be replaced are the plastic carrier bag (which can be any regular grocery bag) and premium clumping litter. Despite the fact that the Litter Robot may seem to set you back a lot upfront, the low on-going costs will save you a fair amount of money in the long run. Highly recommended!

2) Petsafe Simply Clean

Unlike the other automatic litter boxes, the Petsafe Simply Clean litter box not only goes through the cleaning cycle after a kitty leaves. It steadily moves and deposits clumps into a plastic bag. There is no possibility of kitty getting its claws jammed in any moving parts because it is not subjected to any. Odours are small as the cleaning is continual. The only things that need to be replaced are premium clumping litter and plastic grocery bags from the grocery store. What's more, in spite of the great quality, the Petsafe litterbox is priced comparatively low as compared to similar products. The only downside is that soft feces would sometimes break into increasingly smaller pieces as the machine revolves, and fail to get carried off by the conveyor. If your kitty has soft fecal material, be ready to have to do a bit of manual scooping occasionally. In spite of this little issue, the Petsafe Simply Clean is still recommended as the the benefits definitely outweigh the drawbacks.

3) ScoopFree

ScoopFree has the regular design shared by many automated boxes, consisting of a rake that drags clumps to a throw-away tray after the cat leaves. What is interesting about this box is that it comes with litter crystals that can be used permanently ( i.e. does not have to be changed ) that absorb urine as well as dry out fecal material to control the odor. In addition to the low ongoing costs, this litterbox has a low upfront purchase price. The sole continuing cost is for the dispensable tray, which needs to be replaced whenever it becomes full. This machine is relatively low-maintenance. The only flaws are that some people find the odor to be excessive, and / or that the motor is overly loud. All in all, though, I would still recommend this litter box as being one of the finest ones available on the market today.

4) Cat Genie

The Cat Genie works differently from the common automatic litterbox. Instead of raking fecal matter into a disposable container, it flushes the waste materials directly down your toilet after you connect it up to your home's plumbing system. Furthermore, it does not require you to keep replacing the litter, as it utilizes unique granules that are permanent and that come with the box when you purchase it. After the waste material is gotten rid of, the box would automatically rinse and blow-dry itself. Although there is the extra inconvenience of having to connect it to your plumbing system at the beginning, the fact that it can dispose of the waste and maintain its own cleanliness will save you far more time down the road. Do keep in mind though that the Cat Genie does utilize a sani-solution for self-cleaning, and this will have to be acquired and replaced on a consistent basis. Another draw back to this litterbox is that, should it ever jam or otherwise malfunction in a way that would require the machine to be disassembled and put back together, the process can be revolting as you would need to manually clean semi-dissolved waste material. However , considering that the majority of the buyer feedback on this product has been positive, this litter box is still recommended.

You are encouraged to do your own online investigation before making a purchasing decision. Just don't presume that any automatic cat litter box will do more of the filthy work to make your life less complicated - some will, and some won't. The more research you do before buying, the less certain you will finish up with a massive mess on your hands and a bigger headache, not to mention a lighter wallet.
